Digital Dish: September 2018
Each month, Sylvamo's Digital Expert writes a Digital Dish newsletter to fuel your digital cravings. This month's edition provides 3 tips to chew on to help minimize dusting in your high-speed inkjet press and converting equipment - because just like kitchens, they've got to be cleaned to maintain a smooth operation!
Dusting of the paper typically occurs when high levels of filler are added on press to achieve high opacity and minimal show through, ideal for inkjet printed pieces.
1. Keep It Moving
As the paper travels around the rollers and through the inkjet press, make sure the rollers either move or, if they are static, are slick enough to prevent the surface of the sheet from being damaged, which causes excessive dusting.
2. Keep It Clean
Have some type of web cleaner on press. This may sound like a simple and obvious solution, but just as you have a staple cleaner for kitchen messes, every printer should have this for optimal press operations.
3. Keep It Trouble-Free
Dusting issues can also happen during converting. Thus, try running a sheet that doesn't require an edge slit. It's also recommended to change the knives at a higher frequency to help slitting stay clean.
