Digital Dish: April 2018

Each month, Sylvamo's Digital Expert writes a Digital Dish newsletter to fuel your digital cravings. This month focuses on proper press set up.

There are 2 important steps in setting up your press to ensure the best print quality. First, you must profile the paper. This is the lengthy part of the process and can take as long as 3 hours. Sometimes this can be done in advance by the OEM to save time. Next, you must linearize your press. Linearization is the process of lining up the heads with the sheet, and it can take about an hour. Since all presses and papers can differ slightly, it’s important to follow this process every time you run a new substrate.

At Sylvamo, we regularly test our papers at the mill to meet guidelines of a 1.2 density or higher on black and magenta. This guarantees that our paper will run consistently, or we will replace it!
