Each month, Sylvamo's Digital Expert writes a Digital Dish newsletter to fuel your digital cravings. This month focuses on extended color gamut.
In today’s ever-evolving print market, original equipment manufacturers are consistently looking for ways to advance the print capabilities of their presses in order to reproduce the Pantone Color Gamut. Called extended gamut or expanded gamut (ECG or EG), seven color printing is the process of adding more colors to a traditional four-color process. In order to extend the color gamut and more accurately match Pantone shades, some presses, like the Indigo® series, add 3 additional ink stations - orange, violet and green (OVG), while others like the iGen®5 only have 1 extra station for a total of 5, but can use orange, green and blue (OGB), as well as clear and white inks. As part of Canon Solutions America’s line of high speed inkjet presses, the new Océ ProStream™ impressively extends the color gamut by up to 47% using only CMYK.
No matter the press, all roads lead to Rome with an expanded color gamut vs. conventional CMYK!
